Michigan Becomes US Leader in Online Casino and Sports Betting Revenue
Michigan has officially taken the top spot in the US for revenue generated from online casinos and sports betting. Three years after the legalization of iGaming in the state, this sector continues to deliver impressive results.
In 2023, the total betting volume reached $6.5 billion, with tax revenues amounting to $354 million. The average amount spent per resident was $822. In 2024, gross gaming revenue is projected to reach a record $7.5 billion.
Online gaming and sports betting have outpaced land-based casinos and lotteries in revenue, becoming the largest source of tax income in Michigan's gaming industry. Most of the collected funds are directed toward educational initiatives through the School Aid Fund.
Michigan is one of six states where online slots, poker, and sports betting are legalized, providing residents access to modern gaming platforms.
