Ireland to Introduce New iGaming Regulation Law: Independent Regulator Established

Ireland has approved a bill to regulate the iGaming industry, which includes the creation of an independent body, the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI). The new legislation will provide a modern licensing and control system aimed at combating offshore gambling platforms.

Minister James Browne stated that the law represents a key step toward establishing a streamlined and consistent framework for gambling regulation in the digital age. GRAI will be empowered to enforce strict measures against violators.

A seven-member board, overseen by the Department of Justice, will begin operations once the preparatory phase is completed. The bill was developed in consultation with industry representatives, charitable organizations, and related sectors. Findings from ESRI research informed many of its provisions.
